Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)

How does my child's doctor know that it's ITP?

ITP can usually be identified by:

• a careful medical history
• physical examination
• complete blood count, including a hematologist’s examination of the blood under the microscope

Some other blood tests may be necessary. A bone marrow biopsy is not usually necessary.
