Contact lens safety
Disease Information
Overview
Cosmetics are common sources of problems when it comes to wearing contact lenses. Misusing cosmetics can lead to severe adverse reactions, including allergy, injury and infection.
- Cosmetics shouldn’t be applied to eyes that are red, swollen or infected.
- Children who wear make-up can protect their eyes by choosing non-scented, hypoallergenic cosmetics manufactured by well-known, trusted brand names.
- Make-up should always be applied after inserting contact lenses and should never be applied while in motion or while driving.
- Children should wash their hands before inserting or removing contact lenses and should also wash make-up brushes regularly.
