Bacterial endocarditis
Disease Information
Treatment & Care
What treatments are available for bacterial endocarditis?
Bacterial endocarditis may cause severe damage to the inner lining of the heart and to the heart’s valves. In most cases, the infection can be treated with strong antibiotics given through an IV over the course of several weeks. Heart damage may occur, however, before the infection can be controlled, so it’s important to focus on prevention.
