What is respiration?
Respiration is another word for breathing. There are two main components to respiration:
- inspiration (inhaling) - taking in oxygen
- expiration (exhaling) - giving off carbon dioxide
What makes up the respiratory system?
The respiratory system is made up of the organs involved in the interchanges of gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide). There is an upper respiratory tract and a lower respiratory tract.
