Anesthesia from algae
Charles Berde, MD, PhD, chief of the Division of Pain Medicine at Children's led collaboration with a Chilean biotech start-up to test an anesthesia called Neosaxitoxin (neoSTX), which is derived from algae. It was found in a trial with Chilean patients, they experienced functional recovery 2 days earlier after laparoscopic gall bladder removal versus current anesthetics.
