Research Overview

Dr. Nguyen’s research laboratory has a particular interest in robotics and technology in health care. He also focuses on clinical and basic science research that includes projects examining vesicoureteral reflux, hydronephrosis, surgical training and education, and international healthcare. He is an extremely active robotic surgeon, and has numerous projects devoted to examining the cost effectiveness and safety of robotic surgery in children. Additionally, a large component of his efforts revolve around the use of existing technologies in novel ways to address issues in pediatric urology and medicine in general.

About Hiep Nguyen

Dr. Nguyen graduated from the University of California at Davis with a B.S. in Biochemistry in 1988. He then went on to complete medical school at the University of California San Francisco in 1992, a urology residency at the University of California San Francisco in 1998, and a fellowship in Pediatric Urology at Children’s Hospital Boston in 2000. He is an Associate Professor in Surgery (Urology) at Harvard Medical School, an attending urologist at Children’s Hospital Boston. He is the director of both the Robotic Surgery, Research, and Training Center and the Pediatric TeleUrology Service at Children’s Hospital Boston. He is Rose Zimmerman Mandell Chair in Innovative Urological Technology.
