Allergy and Asthma Program

About us

In the Allergy Program at Boston Children's Hospital, we understand that having a child with food allergies requires vigilant planning, which can be worrisome at times. That’s why we use a multidisciplinary approach and work closely with specialists in other departments in the hospital to develop individualized care plans that meet each child’s medical needs. Our dedicated focus on a pediatric population, along with our access to resources throughout the hospital, allows us to provide the highest quality treatment to children.

Evaluation

The first step in this process involves a comprehensive consultation with a physician or nurse practitioner who will ask questions and do a physical examination.   Laboratory tests such as  x-rays, allergy skin testing, breathing testing and blood tests may also be performed during this time.

Keep in mind that the initial evaluation can take 2 to 4 hours, which may occur over the course of one or more visits.

Long-term care and management

Regular follow-up visits may be needed to monitor your child’s health.  Our comprehensive treatment focuses on all aspects of allergies.
