Animation Bookmarker (aka Talk On!)

A software application that complements the animated characters in children's popular commercial videos. Given the extensive computer and video interest, the application, simply running behind the video, would allow characters in commercial videos to teach children how to perform certain behaviors that are difficult for children on the autism spectrum to acquire.

Status: in development (release Winter, 2007)

Sign Language Bookmarker

A software application that provides real-time sign language captioning as a helpful accommodation to popular children's commercial videos. The application runs behind the video and the signing appears in a separate window.

Status: in development (release Winter, 2007)

Patient on computer screen; Autism Language Program.Two-way Observational Learning

A two-way observational environment which allows the parent or clinician an innovative way to use media to teach essential concepts and ideas. Through research, we have found that two-way video modeling is often more effective to teach children essential concepts and ideas than pre-made materials or live interaction. Our research with two-way observational learning will determine:

  • best settings to implement
  • best concepts to teach
  • best models (parents, children, strangers, teacher)
