Advances in technology and techniques yield faster, more detailed and more precise images. At Boston Children's Hospital, we continually update our equipment and protocols in order to provide the most accurate diagnoses for our pediatric patients. Our facilities include:

 

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) -- Eight MR units in Boston, Waltham and Peabody
    • Boston:
      • Siemens 3-Tesla TIM TRIO
      • Siemens 3-Tesla SKYRA
      • GE 1.5-Tesla TWIN
      • Retractable, ceiling mounted Siemens 1.5-Tesla Symphony (MR/OR) operating room unit

  • Ultrasound
    • Boston: Eleven state-of-the-art ultrasound units (Siemens, Philips and GE) with 3-D capability
    • Lexington: Two Philips units and 1 Siemens unit (all with 3-D capability)
    • North (Peabody): One GE unit with 3-D capability
    • South (weymouth): One GE unit with 3-D capability
    • Waltham: Two Siemens units with 3-D capability

 

  • Computed Tomography (CT) -- Four CT scanners in Boston and Waltham

  • Nuclear Medicine
    • Boston: Five Siemens gamma cameras for high quality SPECT and planar imaging (three dual-detector systems and two single-detector systems) and one portable Digirad gamma camera
    • Waltham: One Siemans SPECT dual-detector scanner

 

  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/Computed Tomography (CT)- One Siemens Biograph mCT 40-slice 

 

  • Diagnostic -- State-of-the-art radiographic X-ray and fluoroscopic units.

 

  • Angiography -- One single-plane Siemens flat panel angiography system with ultrasound and 2 biplane Siemens flat panel angiography systems with ultrasound; one with dynaCT.

 

 

Our Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Voice Recognition (VR) applications enable us to provide results to referring physicians immediately via the hospital's Web-based Results Reporting application. Faster results means that patients have shorter waits for diagnosis and treatment.
