About the Liver Transplant Program
Our program is a multidisciplinary team of specialists, all of whom have special interest and experience in transplantation. These include:
- transplant surgeons and hepatologists
- transplant coordinators
- pharmacists
- social workers
- psychologists
- Child Life specialists
- dietitians
- pathologists
- an experienced pediatric nursing staff with expertise in day-to-day transplant patient care.
Together, we bring a collaborative approach to the treatment of infants, children and adolescents with a variety of diagnoses, including:
- acute liver failure
- Alagille syndrome
- alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency
- biliary atresia
- chronic viral hepatitis
- liver tumors, such as hepatoblastoma
- neonatal hemochromatosis
- Wilson’s disease
- a variety of other metabolic disorders including organic acidemias, urea cycle defects, and hyperoxaluria (oxalosis)
Collaborating with Dana Farber/Children's Hospital Center Center
The Liver Transplant Program is an integral part of the Liver Tumor Program at Dana-Farber/Children's Hospital Cancer Center, which provides a multi-disciplinary, individualized approach to the management of children with malignant and benign tumors of the liver. This integrated service accepts patient referrals for treatment, second opinions and consultations regarding the potential need for liver transplantation.
