Who we are
The Adolescent Breast Center at Children’s Hospital Boston is the first of its kind in the country. The multidisciplinary group of doctors at the Clinic specializes in the evaluation and treatment of various breast problems.
We offer both surgical and non-surgical treatment options. Your doctor will discuss all of these with you after giving you a comprehensive diagnosis.
If you are considering breast surgery, it's easy to schedule an appointment. Just give us a call. From an initial consultation, our clinicians will develop possible treatment plans as well as determine if surgery is your best option. In other words, we'll be with you every step of the way.
We need to do better studies. No one has the data yet. We do not know the impact of these 'benign' conditions on kids. The suggestion is that these adolescents can be reallydevastated.
Brian Labow, MD, director of the Adolescent Breast Clinic.
Macromastia and gynecomastia
The most frequent problems treated at the Center are macromastia, or oversize breasts, and gynecomastia, which is excess breast tissue in a boy.
Sometimes, gynecomastia is a symptom of an underlying issue, such as a pituitary gland tumor or a genetic disorder like Klinefelter's syndrome. Since Children's treats so many patients with rare etiologies, Breast Center clinicians have the advantage of being familiar with these conditions.
In addition to direct treatment, we can provide you with many forms of support, including nutritional guidance and psychological counseling.
