Breaking the silence: How cochlear implants bring the world of sound to deaf children

The story of Hannah's journey through losing her hearing, and receiving her cochlear implant. Hannah's story appeared in a 2008 edition of Dream Magazine, published by Boston Children's Hospital.

Kelley Flynn had been profoundly deaf since she was two. What little hearing she had -- boosted by a conventional hearing aid -- was worsening. All that changed when, at age 7, she received a cochlear implant. Her story was featured in April 2005 on the PBS series "Scientific American Frontiers".
