By providing safe care, we avoid injuries to patients from care that is intended to help them.  Some examples of safety measures include:

• Preventing adverse events, which are things that happen in hospitals that are not intended and can cause harm or risk of harm to patients.
   
• Preventing infections when tubes are placed in the veins to quickly deliver fluid, blood or medications that the patient needs.
