Residencies and fellowships

Each year, approximately 450 postgraduate students, from leading medical schools in the United States and abroad, spend at least a portion of their residencies at Boston Children's.

Fellowship opportunities are available to qualified physicians who seek additional training in a clinical subspecialty or preparation for research and academic careers in pediatrics.

Continuing Medical Education

Boston Children’s Hospital offers opportunities to attend Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses held in or near Boston, Massachusetts. Courses focus on various pediatric specialty topics and may be tailored towards primary care practitioners, pediatric subspecialists, nurses, residents and fellows in training and allied health professionals. Observerships 

The Observership Program at Boston Children's Hospital is an orientation for medical graduates who wish to update their clinical and educational skills in a particular specialty. Each observer will be matched with a faculty member who will serve as their mentor during their observer training at Boston Children's.

To set up an observership with a specific department, please contact the appropriate person through department contacts. Applicants should provide a CV, a letter of reference from their sponsoring institution and a goals statement. A minimum of six months' advance notice is usually required for each department. If the observer is still in medical school, they must apply for a clerkship rotation via the Harvard Medical School registrar.
