Kathryn Commons, PhD

Dr. Commons received her PhD at Cornell University Medical College. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Rockefeller University, and a research assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia before joining the faculty as an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and Children’s Hospital Boston in 2005.
Kathryn (Katie) Commons is a neuroscientist interested in understanding how serotonin neurotransmission functions in the brain. Her primary activity is to lead a laboratory-based research program. Dr. Commons’ research interests include understanding the network architecture and development of brain’s serotonin system. The majority of her teaching takes place within the context of her research program. Dr. Commons is on the editorial board of the Journal of Chemical Neuroanatomy and has served on NIH study section. She is the Principal Investigator for an NIH Regular Research Grant and Director of the Neuroanatomy Core for a Program Project studying the role of the serotonin system in sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
