Keira Mason, MD
Dr. Mason is Director of Radiology Anesthesia and Sedation and Chairman of the Radiology Sedation Committee. Her clinical and research interests are focused on sedation and anesthesia delivery in areas outside of the operating room. Over the past decade, sedation and anesthesia in areas external of the operating room has increased in volume, demand and complexity.
Dr. Mason is Founder and Course Director of an annual conference entitled: Pediatric Sedation Outside of the Operating Room. This course provides a forum for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and experience between faculty and course registrants who span from many areas across the globe.
Dr. Mason has a particular interest in the safety and application of novel methods of sedation and anesthesia delivery and has introduced dexmedetomidine sedation for radiological imaging studies. She works closely with the department of radiology in order to develop protocols which will maximize and support the acquisition of complex imaging studies which are important in guiding patient care. She has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration as the Primary Investigator for a study examining the pharmacokinetics of dexmedetomidine, an alpha 2 agonist.
