Anesthesiology Research

Dr. McCann’s interest in neuroanesthesia and anesthesia in neonates and public health led her to design the GAS project with collaborators Dr. Andrew Davidson in Australia and Dr. Neil Morton in the United Kingdom.  With seed money from her department, she initiated the GAS project at Children’s Hospital in Boston and then with the help of the FDA developed a national infrastructure for this project to manage this study in terms of data management, quality control and education of participants in terms of anesthetics and follow-up outcomes.

The NIH funding has allowed Dr. McCann to begin enrolling in our 8 national subsites.  The next phase of this project is to begin developing the infrastructure for the 5 year follow-up examinations, continue maintaining the infrastructure for the enrollment, screening and 2 year follow-up examinations.
