Ophthalmology
A central focus of research in the Department of Ophthalmology has been on retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Lois Smith's laboratory is investigating the factors that stimulate--and supress--ROP, while Anne Fulton's group is elucidating the role of photoreceptors in ROP.
Additional research, conducted by David Hunter, is directed at developing less invasive approaches to treating pediatric eye disorders, including amblyopia and extropia.
Featured researchers in the Department of Ophthalmology hold faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School.
