Current Environment: Production

The Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Department provides services in Boston, Waltham, Lexington, Peabody, and Weymouth. Our sports medicine clinicians are also available at Boston Children’s in North Dartmouth.

No matter where you visit us, your child will be cared for by a team of experienced clinicians and staff who will support you before, during, and after your visit.

How to prepare for your first visit

Help us gather diagnostic images of your child

Please call us before your appointment if your child’s pediatrician or another provider has x-rays or other diagnostic images on file that may be relevant to your child’s care. Our team can arrange to have those images added to your child’s patient record at Boston Children’s.

Sign up for the patient portal

The MyChildren’s Patient Portal gives families the ability to view their child’s health record and test results, schedule and cancel visits, and much more. We encourage all families to sign up for the portal, where you’ll have access to the New Patient Questionnaire that we ask all new families to complete and submit before their child’s first visit.

What to expect during your visit

Please allow extra time to park, find your way to our clinic, and check in before your child’s appointment.

Questions to ask about your child’s orthopedic care

Getting answers to your questions can help you feel more informed and confident in your child’s care.

Clinical team

Your child’s care team will include the doctor in charge of your child’s care and may also include a physician assistant (PA) and nurse practitioner (NP). This team works together to care for your child. Your child’s doctor will be directing your child’s care at all times and is always available to answer questions.

After your visit

Most orthopedic visits, follow-up care, and many surgical procedures are done on an outpatient basis. Unless your child is scheduled for a surgical procedure that requires an overnight stay, they’ll return home with you on the same day as their visit.

Before the end of your visit, a member or our team will tell you what additional services, such as x-ray, bracing, casting, or medical equipment the doctor has recommended for your child.

Diagnostic tests

Your child’s doctor may order one or more following diagnostic tests, which can be done on site at many of our locations:

Bracing and casting

If your child needs a cast applied or removed, we have casting clinics in our Boston, Waltham, Peabody, and Weymouth facilities.

We also work closely with Boston Orthotics & Prosthetics to provide customized braces and prosthetics for our patients who need them. Boston O&P clinics are conveniently located in our Boston, Waltham, and Weymouth locations and down the street from our Peabody facility.
