Advancing simulation science around the globe

Created with Raphaël 2.1.0

Disseminating and spreading simulation across the globe is critical for improving the quality and safety of health care delivery. We collaborate with multidisciplinary faculty to implement simulation instructor programs and have trained over 1,000 domestic and international faculty in multi-day pediatric simulation instructor courses. Our simulation instructor curricula range from basic techniques in SIM delivery to state-of-the-art “how to” courses in human factors engineering, each with a large emphasis on psychological safety in debriefing and feedback. IDS has built incredible international partnerships among 12 pediatric teaching hospitals in seven countries, focused on the rapid launch of high-quality simulation centers around the globe.

Advancing and spreading expertise through domestic and international consultation and simulation program development

We collaborate with colleagues around the world to establish, expand, and enhance in-house simulator programs. The goal: to provide world-class consultation that improves health care simulation both nationally and internationally, addressing health disparities by establishing programs in resource-limited areas.

To date, IDS has assisted hospitals across six continents in successfully, rapidly, and sustainably developing Simulation Centers of Excellence. We target specific milestones to ensure tangible, reportable achievements to reach sustainable operational independence by the partner center being developed. Successful collaborations include:

Meyer Children's Hospital logo

Italy: Meyer Children’s Hospital

We’re helping to transform Meyer Children’s Simulator Program into a key clinical service partner for the hospital to respond to mission-critical problems as they arise.

University of Benin logo

Nigeria: Center for Reproductive Heath Innovation

This multi-year initiative will be focused on training nurses and midwives in maternal and neonatal care.

University of Global Health Equity logo

Rwanda: University of Global Health Equity

We have shared our expertise with the University of Global Health Equity on continuing their simulations safely during COVID-19. We also conducted a remote three-day instructors’ course to expand their core team of internal simulation experts.

Sant Joan de Déu-Barcelona Children’s Hospital logo

Spain: Sant Joan de Déu-Barcelona Children’s Hospital

Over a seven-year partnership, we have conducted nearly 1,000 courses, within 18 units, and trained 177 faculty.

New Zealand: Starship Simulation Program

Starship emphasizes simulation faculty development via in-situ simulation and has trained instructors across numerous departments including the ICU, Neonatology, Emergency Medicine, and Oncology, among others.
