Sarah Salazar | Professional History

In her earliest years, Sarah honed her stewardship values and leadership skills through thirteen summers with Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA. Sarah then followed her professional calling to understand and work alongside high-need children and families by serving two years for Americorps at COTS Family Shelters in Vermont; where she remained for an additional two years as a staff member. Sarah then invested her next decade and half here in Massachusetts working for Wayside Youth and Family Support Network providing family stabilization services to children and families struggling to live safely together at home, and in their home communities, due to significant mental health challenges. While at Wayside Sarah was a BA level Youth and Family Support Worker; MSW level Home Based, Mobile Crisis & Outpatient Clinician; and finally an LICSW level Clinical Supervisor then Program Director. In her time at Wayside Sarah made substantive connections with clients and their families, staff, schools, State agencies and countless community members and providers. She comes to Boston Children's Hospital with a strong understanding of family needs and community resources; and a continued dedication to work alongside children and families, and their treatment teams, to strive for optimal patient health and wellbeing.

I believe in celebrating every patient family's unique culture; in strengthening communication and relationships within a family system, and between caregivers, patients and providers; in order to afford the opportunity for optimal comprehension of health needs and treatment recommendations. Through partnership with a child's family, school and community we improve each child's healthcare outcome.
