The Boston Children's Hospital Intestine and Multivisceral Transplant team tracks and reviews many different quality metrics related to the performance of our program. We use these metrics to constantly improve the care of children undergoing intestine and multivisceral transplantation.
Transplant volume
Our Intestine and Multivisceral Transplant Program is one of the largest pediatric programs in the country. Our ability to medically manage and rehabilitate patients has dramatically progressed, meaning fewer and fewer patients are requiring transplants, which is reflected in our transplant volume.
Transplant outcomes
Outcomes data are published biannually by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR). The data below was released in January 2023.
Pediatric (<18) patient survival rates
Patient survival rates represent the percent of patients alive following a period of time after transplant. Three-year data is for transplants occurring between 1/1/17-6/30/19.
Boston Children’s Hospital Intestine and Multivisceral Transplant team cares for and transplants some of the most complex patients. Patient and graft survival can be impacted by, among other things, recurrence of the primary disease, complications related to transplant, including poor adherence to medications schedules and the impact of long-term immunosuppression and complications due to other medical issues.
