Whether your child needs a simple filling or a full mouth reconstruction, the Prosthodontics Program at Boston Children's Hospital is committed to restoring and improving smiles in each child we see.

Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the restoration and replacement of teeth.

Prosthodontists are dentists who receive extra training in order to gain an understanding of the dynamics of a smile, the preservation of a healthy mouth, and the creation of tooth replacement. They can be thought of as skilled “architects” who coordinate the extraction, implants, periodontal, and endodontic treatment, with other specialists that are needed in order for each smile to look beautiful and achieve optimal function.

At Boston Children’s, we create custom-made appliances for children with unique aesthetic or functional needs.

If your child requires single tooth replacement, treatments may include crowns, bridges, or implants. If your child has many missing teeth he or she may receive partial or full dentures or dental implants.

Our staff

Boston Children's is the primary pediatric teaching hospital of Harvard School of Dental Medicine where our providers hold faculty appointments.

The prosthodontists at Boston Children’s work with a clinical team that includes:

Our expertise

At Boston Children’s, we take a multidisciplinary approach to dental care. Our clinical staff brings together a number of professionals from various specialties who work as a team to provide the most comprehensive and highest quality care.

In addition to providing dental care to children who are physically healthy, our prosthodontists and other clinical staff members have experience treating the dental aspects that go along with conditions such as cleft lip and palate, ectodermal dysplasia, amelogenesis imperfecta, dentinogenesis imperfecta, and other syndromes children may have. We postpone some “prosthetic reconstruction” until the child is physically, mentally, and emotionally mature enough to handle treatment.

And since we work within Boston Children’s, we are also able to work directly with the child’s medical team and gain digital access to his or her medical records. This collaborative effort allows us to develop the best possible treatment plan for each child.

Our mission

Our mission is to utilize the finest materials and most up-to-date techniques in order to provide children and adolescents with the highest quality of care. Using a multidisciplinary approach, we strive to restore smiles to be the best that they can be.

Our team

Our prosthodontists have extensive experience in treating patients requiring special dental care. Many children treated in our Cleft Lip and Palate and Craniofacial programs benefit from our team's services.
