Researcher | Research Overview

Dr. Russ aims to advance pediatric care domestically and in global health through improving pediatric education. Dr. Russ is the rotation director for the Boston Combined Residency Program (BCRP) Pediatric Global Health Rotations, and co-chair of the BCRP Academy for Community and Global Health. She collaborates with other pediatric global health educators in the Association of Pediatric Program Directors on curriculum development, travel preparation, and mentorship for pediatric trainees who plan to work in global health settings. She has partnered with colleagues in the Global Health Education Consortium to develop an online, interactive global health curriculum. She is currently working on studies to evaluate outcomes of global health rotations.

Her global work is based in Eastern Africa, with a focus on improving health in under-resourced areas through medical education in hospitals and clinics. She is currently undertaking a qualitative study of host perceptions of guest faculty at pediatric training centers in East Africa. She is also partnering with Physicians for Haiti and Partners in Health on a faculty development in medical education program at Mirebalais University Hospital in Haiti.

Dr. Russ is a hospitalist and the Associate Medical Director in the Intermediate Care Program. In addition to her clinical role she oversees quality improvement initiatives in the unit.

Researcher | Research Background

Dr. Russ is a pediatric hospitalist who graduated from Washington University in St. Louis as a systems science engineer and subsequently trained in medicine at the University of Tennessee, Memphis. She completed her residency training in pediatrics in 2007 at the Boston Combined Residency Program at Children's Hospital, Boston. Following residency she completed the Harvard Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education and received a diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
