My brother is a Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor and was receiving treatment when I was in college. I had known nursing was a passion of mine since 8th grade when I became a Candy Striper, but seeing what he went through with his disease and its treatment made me curious to know more about oncology as a field. The multi-system aspect of oncology always interested me as it seemed to mirror a holistic approach to the whole person as a patient. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn, particularly as I witnessed improving leukemia cure rates early on in my career. I feel very privileged to be able to support and care for our patients and their families in the field of pediatric oncology.
