Fertility Preservation | Overview

In coordination with The Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and The Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Division of Gynecology at Boston Children’s Hospital offers fertility preservation options primarily to young women and girls who are at risk for loss of ovarian function. This service is offered to girls undergoing treatment for cancer, at risk for premature ovarian insufficiency due to a genetic predisposition, or at risk for loss of ovarian function from recurrent ovarian torsion. Our providers assist patients and families to determine the best options to preserve future fertility based on the patient’s diagnosis and treatment. These include medical therapies and options for freezing of eggs and/ovarian tissue. In addition we provide surgical procedures to move ovaries out of the radiation field for girls and young women undergoing radiation therapy for cancer.
