Understanding Stress and Mental Health in US Adolescents | Overview

Dr. McLaughlin is a collaborator on the National Comorbidity Survey Replication Adolescent Supplement (NCS-A).  The NCS-A is the first nationally representative survey of mental disorders in U.S. adolescents.

The survey includes a sample of over 10,000 13-17 year olds and assessed a variety of mental disorders and potential correlates, including childhood adversities, trauma exposure, family structure and socioeconomic status, peer relationships, and academic achievement.

Dr. McLaughlin has been involved in numerous projects in the NCS-A and has taken the lead on examining the impact of childhood adversities on mental disorders and estimating the prevalence of trauma exposure and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in U.S. adolescents.
