Over the course of development, the pediatric liver evolves from it’s fetal role in hematopoiesis to another role in metabolism and bilirubin production. This requires a complex coordination of responses between immune and hepatic parenchyma and is poorly understood. Our lab is involved in a multicenter trial sponsored by the Chan Zuckerberg Foundation to understand how the transcriptome in immune and hepatic parenchyma of the developing liver changes over the course of childhood, as these interactions are likely involved in several hepatic disease processes such as biliary atresia and hepatoblastoma.
