Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) collectively affect one in six individuals in the US, with profound medical, social and economic consequences.
Our center is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through timely and efficient translation of scientific research. We focus on accelerating cutting-edge research by providing investigators with a vibrant scientific community and premier resources within our fully integrated core services, including access to state-of-the-art technologies and custom consultations.
Boston Children’s Hospital is home to one of 15 Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (IDDRCs) — a network of NIH-funded “centers of excellence“ supported by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), our nation’s first and foremost sustained effort to prevent and treat disabilities through biomedical and behavioral research.
We have four specific objectives:
- To stimulate multidisciplinary research across the translational spectrum.
- To cultivate the next generation of IDD researchers.
- To enable research of the highest scientific caliber with state-of-the-art facilities and technologies.
- To amplify IDD research through collaborations, especially with other IDDRC and patient-advocacy groups.
