Laryngeal papillomas are viral-induced growths that usually occur on the vocal cords and surrounding structures. The mainstay of treatment is surgically excision with a goal of attaining an unobstructed airway and secondarily an adequate voice.
Your child will be treated through our Voice and Velopharyngeal Dysfunction Center, a subspecialty clinic in the Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Enhancement. Our purpose is to fully evaluate children with voice disorders and/or disorders of the velopharyngeal closure.
After making an accurate diagnosis, recommendations are made for management of the problem, which may include voice/speech therapy, medical treatment, and surgical intervention. Communication with your referring physician and/or speech clinician is routinely performed.
