The Care Management Center (CMC) at Boston Children’s Hospital provides a range of patient and family-centered services to ensure access to care at Boston Children’s and to coordinate medically necessary care at home and in the community.

The mission of the Care Management Center is to fully integrate and support the hospital system’s quality standards into the care of patients and daily operations for Boston Children’s Hospital while contributing to the fiscal health of the organization through appropriate allocation of resources. The center’s primary concern is to coordinate patient care from the patient’s admission through the healthcare delivery system until discharge, and to identify and address any barriers to the patient’s movement through the continuum of care. The focus of our work is:

  • Care coordination and discharge coordination of patients
  • Appropriateness of patient length of stay
  • Utilization of clinical resources
  • Medical necessity of admissions; inpatient and observation status
  • Psychiatric placements

Our department is led by Senior Director Lynn Darrah, Directors Terry Buckley Dean, Corinna Foley, Julie Kirby, Elizabeth McKniff and Administrator Steven Jurkowski.

The department is comprised of Nurse Case Managers (RNCM), Utilization Review RNs, Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists, inpatient Care Management Associates, outpatient Care Management Coordinators, and Psychiatric Resource Specialists.
