The Kawasaki Disease Program at Boston Children’s Hospital provides coordinated care for patients with all stages of Kawasaki disease, from diagnosis through long-term follow-up.

Kawasaki disease causes inflammation of many tissues of the body, including the hands, feet, whites of the eyes, mouth, lips and throat. If not diagnosed and treated early, it can cause damage to the coronary arteries, the blood vessels that supply oxygen to the heart. This damage may be temporary or can affect children long-term.

Our depth of experience in Kawasaki disease

Boston Children’s Kawasaki Disease Program is staffed by a team of cardiologists, rheumatologists and a pediatric nurse practitioner who are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of Kawasaki disease.

Each year, we treat more than 60 new patients for definite or suspected Kawasaki disease, and follow more than 1,500 children and young adults for heart problems related to this condition.

Why choose the Kawasaki Disease Program?

The Kawasaki Disease Program at Boston Children's Hospital serves as a national and international resource for parents and physicians. Our team of clinicians includes international experts on this difficult-to-diagnose condition.

A member of our team is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide consultation and care for children and their families.
