Mission
The mission of the Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Occupational Therapy Fellowship Program is to recruit motivated and qualified licensed occupational therapists who have a strong interest in pediatrics and to provide an opportunity for advanced, intensive clinical and didactic training in order for them to become clinicians, researchers, and educators of choice with a pediatric specialization.
Program highlights
- 52-week program divided into several learning modules
- Diverse learning experiences related to neuro-developmental populations, acute inpatient care, developmental and childhood diseases, early intervention, upper extremity conditions, pediatric psychological care, chronic pain, augmentative communication, and assistive technology
- Fellowship faculty includes practitioners with advanced skill training and certifications
- Participation in multidisciplinary care clinics
- Shared didactic experiences with Harvard Medical School residency programs and the Boston Children’s Physical Therapy Resident
- Participation in the LEND (Leadership, Education and Neurodevelopmental and Related Disorders) Program
- Research and teaching opportunities
- Full-time salaried and benefited employee of Boston Children’s Hospital throughout the program
Program goals and objectives
- Provide opportunities to develop advanced critical reasoning and self-assessment of clinical skills
- Develop an understanding of how to integrate the occupational profile and ICF models within clinical reasoning for complex diagnoses
- Provide an opportunity to review evidence-based literature and to contribute to this body of knowledge
- Provide opportunities to engage in different models of service delivery in pediatric occupational therapy
- Prepare the fellow to contribute to the profession through teaching
- Consistently support the professional development and personal growth of the fellow
- Prepare program graduates to pursue AOTA Board Certification in Pediatric Occupational Therapy practice
Admission requirements
- Graduate of an OT program accredited by ACOTE or approved by the WFOT (required by AOTA)
- Have successfully passed the NBCOT exam for initial certification (required by AOTA)
- Minimum of three years of experience as an occupational therapist
- Meets all the requirements for employment at Boston Children’s Hospital
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in Massachusetts
- Current CPR certification

- Career goals in pediatric occupational therapy
- Summary of prior clinical and educational experience related to pediatrics
- Two letters from references
- Interview
