The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Disabilities Program seeks to recruit trainees who desire to advance their knowledge and skills in preparation for a leadership role working with children with disabilities and other special health care needs and their families. Our LEND Program provides interdisciplinary training opportunities to health and education professionals as well as to families.
The program is appropriate for students in any professional discipline who work with children with developmental disabilities and their families, including but not exclusive to audiology, creative arts, dentistry, education, family medicine, health administration, law, nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, pastoral counseling, pediatrics, physical therapy, psychiatry, psychology, public health, rehabilitation counseling, social work, and speech therapy. Family members who wish to advance their knowledge in these areas and who are working toward leadership roles in the field of maternal and child health are encouraged to apply and become a fellow as well.
Long-term LEND fellows spend about 400 hours in our program. There is an expectation that fellows commit to 1½ days per week from September through the middle of May, with Fridays being the dedicated training day. The additional half day is negotiated with the fellow and is dependent on other obligations. Each fellow is expected to participate in all the various training activities during the year. Stipends are available for some fellows.
