- What is stressing me out at school?
- School is a big part of your life. You want to enjoy it, right? But some kids say:
- “I have too much homework.”
- “It’s hard to get good grades.”
- “Some kids at school are mean to me.”
- Can you relate? What’s hard for you? What could you do?
Get some ideas that have worked for other kids.
If homework is getting to you:
- Break a large task into small, manageable steps.
- Plan ahead. Make out a schedule for the week with a plan for when you’ll do your homework. Ask an adult to help you.
- Balance work and fun. Plan time for not only homework but also playing games or sports, hobbies, and other fun activities.
If you are stressed about grades:
- Learn to feel good about your best effort, or doing well enough sometimes.
- Realize nobody is perfect. You don’t have to get all A’s.
- Ask your teacher or another trusted adult for extra help.
If some kids are being mean to you:
- Get help from a trusted adult. It’s hard to handle mean kids alone.
- It’s usually not helpful to pretend mean kids don’t bother you or to make plans to get back at them.
Other helpful ideas:
- Make a plan and practice what to do in stressful situations.
- Take a break. Activities like listening to music, talking with a friend, drawing, writing, or spending time with a pet can reduce stress.
- Will any of these ideas work for me? What else could I do?
