Our expertise in anesthesia

Our multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurse anesthetists, nurses, and other clinicians are focused solely on the care of children and adolescents. We tailor the equipment and protocols we use to patients' unique needs and physiology, maximizing safety while minimizing discomfort as much as possible.

Our team continually re-examines the standard methods of clinical care and works to develop better, more reliable practices for protecting a child's heart, lung, and brain function, and blood circulation during anesthesia and medical care. Our record of innovation and publication has earned us top recognition.

What sets us apart

We specialize in the care of children. Our patients range from babies still in the womb to adults. Our patients come to Boston Children’s from every part of the United States, as well as from all over the world, for care that combines:

  • state-of-the-art clinical care before, during, and after surgery and procedures
  • exemplary care for patients with pain; recognized as a Center of Excellence by the American Pain Society and certified by ChildKind
  • world-renowned, multidisciplinary critical care
  • exceptional outcomes driven by continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • groundbreaking innovations and discoveries

What's more, more than 35 of our faculty members and CRNAs were born outside of the United States. Our team members and CRNAs also speak over 30 languages. In 2017, Boston Children's Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine was named "the top department in the world" in an extensive review by Harvard Medical School.
