SIMPeds | Overview

Since 2015, Dr. Carolyn Rogers-Vizena has partnered closely with the Boston Children’s Hospital Simulator Program (SIMPeds) to develop and deploy a high-fidelity cleft lip surgical trainer. Her previous work has demonstrated the value of cleft simulation as part of a comprehensive teaching program, its utility for evaluation of technical skills, and its impact on long term learning. Cleft lip simulation remains an ongoing part of the department’s educational mission and current innovation efforts are focused on developing lower cost trainers to deploy more broadly in both low and high resource environments.
