Genetics and Genomics Core Facilities

Researchers in genetics and genomics at Boston Children’s Hospital and surrounding institutions can access broad array of specialized services, state-of-the-art equipment and expert guidance to expedite their projects. Click below for detailed information on our cores, which include:

Bioinformatics Core
Provided through the Kunkel Lab, the Bioinformatics Core provides the computing infrastructure to facilitate information exchange between the different genetics and genomics cores. This core provides projects with assistance in designing integrative genomics studies and in data analysis and interpretation.

Molecular Genetics and DNA Sequencing Core
This core, provided through Boston Children’s Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC), provides high quality, affordable genomic technology services and expertise. Services include DNA sequencing, RNA microarray and sequencing, whole-genome expression, microsatellite genotyping, SNP genotyping and sample extraction and banking.

Gene Discovery Core
The Gene Discovery Core (GDC), part of the Manton Center for Orphan Disease Research, is a repository and database for storing and studying samples from people with rare diseases, accompanied by their medical and family histories. Investigators can request access to samples in the GDC and funding for sample analysis.

Cell Sorter (Flow Cytometry) Core
Housed in the IDDRC Stem Cell Core Facility, this core offers cost effective, state-of-the-art flow cytometry and cell sorting services. A high-speed sorter is available for a wide range of applications including flow karyotyping, chromosome sorting, cell cycle analysis, stem cell isolation, green fluorescent protein (GFP) containing cell sorting, and immunocytochemistry.

Mouse Gene Manipulation Core
This core provides genetically altered mice as well as expert assistance and training in generating and managing transgenic mouse colonies.
