Tetralogy of Fallot Genetics Registry | Overview

This website was created to serve two purposes. First, we hope that it provides visitors with important general information about tetralogy of Fallot and genetics. The Genetics Resources page includes useful information about genetic discrimination, family history tools, and genetics basics.

The second purpose of the website is to provide information about an ongoing research project, the Tetralogy of Fallot Genetics Registry, being conducted at Boston Children's Hospital, in collaboration with researchers at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women's Hospital. Please follow the links to learn more about the details of this voluntary project and how to become involved.

Tetralogy of Fallot Genetics Registry

Introduction

Cardiologists and research scientists at Boston Children's Hospital, Brigham & Women's Hospital, and Harvard Medical School are studying the connection between genes (DNA) and congenital heart defects, especially tetralogy of Fallot (TOF).

Genes are the "instruction manual" for the development of the human body, including the heart. For more information about the genetics of TOF, please go to Genetics of Tetralogy of Fallot

We hope that our research will uncover genetic causes of heart defects such as tetralogy of Fallot. This information may potentially help us to provide better answers to families' questions regarding causes and recurrence risks. It may also provide clues to future interventions and/or treatments.
