BOSTON CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL

Department of Neurology & F.M. Kirby Neurobiology Center
Boston, MA

  1. Post-doctoral Training Fellowship in Quantitative Mass Spectrometry
  2. Post-doctoral Training Fellowship in Cell Biology / Neurobiology
  3. Post-doctoral Training Fellowship in Bioinformatics

Post-doctoral training fellowships are available to work in the Steen Laboratory directed by Judith Steen Ph.D., Associate Professor of Neurology, and Hanno Steen Ph.D., Associate Professor of Pathology. The Steen laboratory applies mass spectrometry-based methods to answer questions in the field of neurodegenerative diseases. Our lab is situated in the FM Kirby Center for Neurobiology at Boston Children’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. Harvard and the Boston scientific community provide fellows with a stimulating scientific environment including seminar series that profile leading scientists around the world. Boston provides an exciting and vibrant cultural setting to live.

We have three openings in our research group:

1) Post-doctoral Fellow in Quantitative Mass Spectrometry

We are seeking a research fellow with a PhD in Biochemistry or related fields with a strong background in quantitative mass spectrometry. Candidates with experience in SRM and/or PRM methodology, who are familiar with Skyline will be shortlisted. A strong interest in neurobiology is desired. The project will focus on developing and applying quantitative proteomics methods to understand the role of tau aggregation and clearance in tauopathies. Tauopathies are a group of neurodegenerative diseases characterized by the accumulation of tau protein in the brain, such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Frontotemporal Dementia. The project will also involve the extension of these methods to other neurodegenerative diseases.

2) Post-doctoral Fellow in in Neurobiology

We are seeking a research fellow with a PhD in Neurobiology with a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and developmental biology. The project will investigate neurodegenerative disorders in motor neurons using proteomics and genomics. Applicants with experience with stem cell cultures and mouse models will be shortlisted. A strong interest in neurodegenerative disease is important.

3) Post-doctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics

A bioinformatics fellow position is available to a candidate with experience in computational biology and quantitative proteomic. The post-doctoral fellow will be involved in method development at the interface of transcriptomics and proteomics, with special emphasis on quantitative proteomics and non-classical RNA translation.

The Steen labs are located within the Kirby Neurobiology Center in the new Center for Life Sciences Building at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The fellows will have an academic affiliation with Harvard Medical School. The post-doctoral fellows will have ample opportunities to take advantage of the vibrant scientific community of Harvard Medical School and its affiliated hospitals.

Applicants should e-mail their CV and 3 references to Dr. Judith Steen Judith.steen@childrens.harvard.edu and/or Dr Hanno Steen Hanno.steen@childrens.harvard.edu
