Maya Chopra, MBBS, FRACP, is a physician who directs the Translational Genomic Medicine Program for the Rosamund Stone Zander Translational Neuroscience Center at Boston Children’s Hospital. She specializes in the genetics of rare disorders, especially those affecting learning and development. Her patients, from over the world, have often seen multiple doctors — who frequently hadn’t heard of their condition — before coming to her. She talks about the privilege of helping these children, her hope that her work will lead to better care and treatments, and her hope to see more women and girls pursuing science.
