Information for new parents

If you are delivering your baby at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, you will be asked at delivery who your baby's pediatrician will be. Let them know that you have chosen Newton-Wellesley Family Pediatrics, and they will contact us about your baby's birth. One of our doctors will come to examine your baby while admitted. If you are delivering your baby at another hospital, the hospital pediatrician should tell you when to follow up in our office.

Before discharge, the baby will be screened for heart disease, jaundice, and hearing loss and receive a Hepatitis B vaccination as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The doctor that cared for your baby in the hospital will tell you when they feel your baby should be seen next. This usually happens 1-3 days after going home to make sure your baby is feeding well and that they have not become jaundiced or lost too much weight.

We always have room in our schedules to see newborns, seven days a week. We do recommend that you book this appointment before leaving the hospital. Please call us at 617-965-6700.

New patient registration

Thank you for choosing Newton-Wellesley Family Pediatrics as your child's patient-centered medical home. We are honored to have you as part of our team. In order to provide you and your family with the best possible care, it is very important that we have access to your child's previous medical records. This will allow us an opportunity to review the records and be familiar with your child's past medical history, medications, and immunizations before meeting. We understand obtaining records can be challenging.

To enroll in our practice, please call 617-65-6700 and wait for the next available representative. If you leave a message, our front office coordinators will contact you within 2 business days to help set up your first appointment. Please ask your previous provider to send your medical records directly to us by fax (617-965-5239). We suggest that you follow up with us in a few weeks to ensure we have received your records. If you have hard copies of your records, our front office coordinators will help you upload them to our portal.

If you have questions about this process, or have issues with computer access, please call the office at 617-965-6700 and ask to speak about new patient registration. We want to make this process as simple as possible. We look forward to meeting you!

If you would like to schedule a follow up appointment or a routine physical appointment, please either call the office between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays or log into the MyChart patient portal. Please note that when using MyChart to request an appointment, you will receive a response within 3 to 5 business days.

Our schedules are released for booking 1 year in advance on the 1st of the month. Due to the high volume of routine physical appointments, especially during the summer months, it is important that you call the office to schedule your appointment as soon as possible.

There are several routine/well visits within the first 2 years of life, and then an annual check-up is recommended for all children starting after age 2 years.

Please note that we do not have walk-in appointments available. If you want a sibling to be seen with another child, please call so we can be prepared for the visit. Please allow time for traffic and parking. If you arrive more than 20 minutes late for your appointment, you may be asked to reschedule. Despite all our efforts to maintain an on-time schedule, sometimes the providers run late due to unexpected emergencies.

Uploading clinical records

If you are a new patient (or an existing patient seen at an outside facility) transferring care from an organization outside of Boston Children’s and the PPOC please inform our administrative team of the need to upload clinical documents.  If there isn’t an automatic sharing of documents via Epic or E-Care Everywhere we will expect clinical documents to be uploaded via your MyChart account (Ask our front desk about MyChart activation).
