The Rheumatology Program at Boston Children's Hospital cares for children and adolescents with a broad range of rheumatologic and inflammatory diseases involving joints, muscles and connective tissues. Children from throughout the U.S. and around the world are referred to Boston Children's for expert consultation and second opinions concerning difficult or complex inflammatory conditions and autoimmune disorders, and autoinflammatory diseases.

The Rheumatology Program is a referral center for a variety of illnesses, particularly juvenile arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and inflammatory disorders of the blood vessels, such as Kawasaki disease, other forms of vasculitis and juvenile dermatomyositis. Each year, our staff cares for nearly 3,000 children in our outpatient clinic, and more than 500 children who are hospitalized at Boston Children’s or treated in our Department of Emergency Medicine are seen in conjunction with Rheumatology specialists. Our team can provide your child with state-of-the-art diagnosis, treatment and clinical management. When appropriate, we work with specialists at other hospitals to ensure that your child receives comprehensive and coordinated care through adulthood.
