Planning for Your Visit

What should participants expect during a visit?

Participating in a study might involve coming to our location for one or more visits, depending on the study. However, some parts of the research can also be done from home. If you are interested in a specific study, they will give you detailed information about what will happen if you decide to join.

As a thank you for participating in our studies, families may receive a small cash payment or gift card to help with their time and travel expenses, and some studies offer childcare for any siblings who need to come along. Children who take part in certain studies may also receive a small toy as a way of showing our gratitude.

What happens during an initial visit? What about a follow up visit?

Each study in the LCN looks a little different, and not every study in the LCN involves a follow-up visit. Check out each lab’s currently recruiting study pages to learn more about what to expect during the visit if you would like to participate.

Who will participants be seeing during a visit?

Participants will work with the research assistants and scientists that make up the study team. For studies that involve clinical assessments, participants may also interact with a psychometrist, clinician, or principal investigator.

Visit each lab's team page or follow our Facebook to learn more about the people you may be interacting with!

How long do visits usually take?

Study visits typically take between 2-4 hours. Some studies may require multiple visits.
