Voice Transcription

To support our mission of providing high quality care, we are using ambient clinical documentation (ACD) technology!

What is ACD?

Boston Children’s Hospital is piloting a product to improve care delivery for our patients and providers’ efficiency by reducing manual data entry, using virtual assistant technology, voice and speech recognition, and automation of clinical documentation technology. 

How does it work?

We use a new technology that uses artificial intelligence and workflows to generate documentation based on recorded audio of patient visits. This significantly reduces the amount of time your provider spends on documentation and allows more time for providing care to you. We use a third-party service provider to process the recorded audio and have agreements in place to ensure the confidentiality of your information. All documentation is reviewed, corrected, and approved by your provider to ensure the accuracy and completeness of your medical record.

What information is collected?

The appointment in the Treatment Room (including exam room, treatment room, or other similar hospital outpatient or inpatient room, or medical office environment) will be audio recorded using a secure application and then transmitted to our service provider for clinic note generation and continuous improvement of the technology.

Who will listen to the recording? 

Your care team, the medical scribes from our approved service provider, and the computer software will have limited access to the recording. The recordings will then be stored for 3 years for the improvement of this technology.

What if I see a mistake in the visit notes?

If you feel there’s a mistake, talk with your care team to help fix it.

I don’t want to use it. Is that OK?

Yes, it’s OK. It’s up to you whether you use this technology. Just tell your care team and they won’t use it.
