The lactation consultants in the Lactation Support Program are highly trained and experienced nurses who work with families and infants who have breastfeeding difficulties. All program staff are international board-certified lactation consultants (IBCLC), which is the gold standard in lactation certification. Below is a list of some of the areas that we specialize in treating:
- clinical breastfeeding/chest-feeding evaluation and assessment
- feeding difficulties: inability to latch at the breast
- suckling difficulties, oral aversion, hypersensitive gag reflex at breast
- separation of lactating parent from infant
- establishing milk supply using a breast pump
- complications of lactation: engorgement, mastitis, low milk supply
We address breastfeeding/chest-feeding issues in infants who have:
- prematurity
- respiratory complications
- congenital heart disease
- gastrointestinal conditions
- growth Issues and failure to thrive
- newborn complications such as hyperbilirubinemia, fever/infections, and hypoglycemia
- other congenital anomalies that affect feeding and swallowing
