As Executive Vice President, Patient Care Operations and System Chief Nursing Officer at Boston Children’s Hospital, Dr. Laura Wood leads the discipline of nursing and provides system-level oversight of patient care delivery throughout the organization’s network and satellite locations. Since joining Boston Children’s in 2013, Laura has further strengthened the hospital’s exceptional nursing practice environment through: the creation of novel care delivery strategies, the implementation of advanced practice clinician career leadership and advancement models, expansion of healthy work environment initiatives with positive system-wide outcomes, leadership of quality-safety-experience initiatives, operations improvement initiatives, and advocacy for child-health focused policies.

Under Laura’s leadership, Boston Children’s Nursing is currently pursuing its fifth ANCC Magnet® re-designation representing the most prestigious international distinction a health care organization can receive for direct care nursing excellence.

Earlier in her career, Laura held progressive nursing and operational leadership roles within three leading academic health care settings: The Johns Hopkins Hospital Children's Center, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and The University of Pennsylvania Health System serving in pediatric nursing, educational and operational roles. Additionally, she served as National Vice President, Clinical Solutions, Siemens Healthcare - now Cerner/Oracle Corporation where she managed clinical and business professional services, and subsequently led clinical IT business development for the entire U.S.

Laura received a Bachelor of Science (BSN) degree in Nursing, Magna Cum Laude from West Virginia University School of Nursing, a Master of Science (MS) degree in maternal-child nursing from The University of Maryland, Baltimore, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. She is a Robert Wood Johnson (RWJF-ENF) Foundation Executive Nurse Fellow alumna and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). Laura currently serves as President, American Nurse’s Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Board of Directors, Boston Children’s Hospital Board of Trustees (ex officio), Children’s Hospital Coalition (CHC/PHLOW Corporation) Board, Friends of the Institute of Nursing Research (FNINR) Board, Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce (GBCOC) Women’s Advisory Board, Pediatric Physician Organization of Children’s (PPOC) Board, and the Risk Management Foundation (RMF) of the Harvard Medical Institutions Inc & Controlled Risk Insurance Company (CRICO) Board of Directors.
