The Family Advisory Council (FAC) is made up of parents and caregivers of Boston Children’s patients as well as several Boston Children’s staff members. Our mission is to ensure that patients and families are engaged in all decisions that affect quality of care, safety, and patient experience.

FAC members engage with the hospital in three key ways:

Family advisory council advise
Advise
& Share

Provide feedback at monthly council meetings and in focus groups, workgroups, and committees.

Family advisory council partner
Partner
& Support

Participate in hospital committees that are focused on the strategic and corporate goals of Boston Children’s.

Family advisory council drive
Drive
& Lead

Identify and drive projects that are important to the FAC, working with hospital departments along the way.

Who can join the Family Advisory Council?

We welcome parents and primary care givers of Boston Children’s patients who have received care within the past 12 months to apply for the council.

It is very important to have council members with current or very recent experiences because our policies and practices change frequently as part of our efforts to improve experiences for patients and families seeking care at Boston Children’s.

Our goal is to ensure that our membership reflects the diversity of the patients and families we are privileged to serve. That diversity includes such things as race, ethnicity, nationality, LGBTQ+, ability, and care and services received here at Boston Children’s.

Our E-Advisors program welcomes current and former patients (16+) and parents/primary caregivers to share feedback, opinions and suggestions through brief surveys sent via email. Click here to learn more.

Time commitment

Monthly Family Advisory Council meetings are usually held on weekday evenings. Additionally, members are asked to dedicate one to three additional hours per month to serve on committees and workgroups throughout Boston Children’s.
